We are grateful to all of our families for their work to keep our students on-track for personal and academic growth. Ms. Fonseca, whose daughter Ana is a fourth grader at KIPP Lanning Square Primary, is just one of the many family members who goes the extra mile to support both her daughter’s education and her school community. 

KIPP Lanning Square Primary teacher, Arielle Bragg, knows about Ms. Fonseca’s dedication firsthand. “She’ll meet up with a translator and she always tells us what she needs as a parent. She really takes ownership of every aspect of her daughter’s education,” said Bragg.

Ms. Fonseca chose the KIPP Lanning Square Primary community because of its proximity to her home—and because she felt teachers were accessible and communicative. “Teachers play an important role in the lives of our children. We leave our children at school every day in the morning and they spend so much of their day with their teachers. I like that at KIPP if Ana has any problems, they’re always calling us right back to help solve it,” she said. "I see a difference between the education Ana is getting and the education being given in her home country of Puerto Rico,” said Ms. Fonseca.

According to Bragg, Ms. Fonseca also supports the school in offering her feedback, ideas, and appreciation to support the community. “She sends us appreciation letters sometimes, and during the pandemic, she would tell us what she liked and disliked about different types of technology we were using, like preferring Peardeck over Nearpod,” said Bragg, who also reported that Fonseca attends family game nights and meetings. 

Fonseca also goes out of her way to connect with other Spanish-speaking members of the community and makes sure she and other families have the information they need to support their children. “There’s another parent who helps me get information about things that are going on in the school, and then I’ll send that information to parents I know so that they can be involved as well,” said Fonseca. “It’s an important way to support the school community.”

Estamos agradecidos con todas nuestras familias por su trabajo para mantener a nuestros estudiantes en el camino académico y emocional este año. La Sra. Fonseca, cuya hija Ana es estudiante de cuarto grado en KIPP Lanning Square Primary, es solo uno de los muchos miembros de la familia que hace un esfuerzo adicional para apoyar la educación de su hija y su comunidad escolar.

La maestra de KIPP Lanning Square Primary, Arielle Bragg, conoce de primera mano la dedicación de la Sra. Fonseca. “Se reunirá con un traductor y siempre nos dice lo que necesita como madre, realmente se hace cargo de todos los aspectos de la educación de su hija”, dijo Bragg.

La Sra. Fonseca eligió la comunidad primaria de KIPP Lanning Square debido a su proximidad a su hogar y porque sintió que los maestros eran accesibles y comunicativos. “Los maestros juegan un papel importante en la vida de nuestros niños. Dejamos a nuestros hijos en la escuela todos los días por la mañana y pasan gran parte del día con sus maestros. Me gusta que en KIPP si Ana tiene algún problema, siempre nos llaman para ayudarnos a resolverlo”, dijo. "Veo una diferencia entre la educación que recibe Ana y la educación que se brinda en su país de origen, Puerto Rico", dijo la Sra. Fonseca.

Según Bragg, la Sra. Fonseca también apoya a la escuela al ofrecer sus comentarios, ideas y aprecio para apoyar a la comunidad. “Ella nos envía cartas de agradecimiento a veces y durante la pandemia, nos decía lo que le gustaba y lo que no le gustaba de los diferentes tipos de tecnología que estábamos usando, como preferir Peerdeck sobre Nearpod”, dijo Bragg, quien también informó que Fonseca asiste a noches de juegos familiares y reuniones

Fonseca también se esfuerza por conectarse con otros miembros de la comunidad que hablan español y se asegura de que ella y otras familias tengan la información que necesitan para apoyar a sus hijos. “Hay otro padre que me ayuda a obtener información sobre las cosas que suceden en la escuela, y luego les envío esa información a los padres que conozco para que también puedan participar”, dijo Fonseca. “Es una forma importante de apoyar a la comunidad escolar”.
